Peer editing is reviewing your peers work and making correction, suggestions, and comments. There are many benefits to peer editing, but a student need to know what is wrong and the proper way to fix it. To me the best approach to peer editing would be to be specific. Be specific when making comments and suggestions. Its best to not generalize. When I peer edit my classmates blog I will be respectful and helpful. The importance of peer editing is to help your peers and make sure they don't have any mistakes. They also learn the right components to a paper and what to leave out. It teachers students how to scan their own paper aw well as someone else's for mistakes. Sometimes it is important for a student to receive feedback from a peer rather than a teacher. Peer editing helps because you don't always see what's wrong with your work. The bad part of peer editing could be that the they don't offer any valuable constructive criticism, some people may only want the teacher to view it, and they don't want others to view their work when it is not finished.

Kristen, I agree that being specific is a very important part of editing. If you are general about your suggestions the writer might not understand exactly what you are suggesting. You said the point of peer editing is to "make sure they don't have any mistakes'. I think that is only part of the reason for editing. You can also suggest ways to help them improve their writing. It might not be a mistake you are pointing out but a suggestion that helps their writing come across stronger and improved. You are also correct in that we don't always see our own mistakes. It is good to have second pair of eyes to cover your tracks!
